INITIAL CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE DANTES CATALOG OF NATIONALLY ACCREDITED DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMS
Accreditation. The institution must be accredited by a national accrediting organization recognized by the Department of Education. The appropriate accrediting agency must confirm that the institution is in good standing. Any questions or problems related to the quality of the institution's programs, instructors, or sales practices must have all been resolved.
Responsiveness to military Service needs. DANTES gives primary consideration to courses or programs requested by the military Services through their respective headquarters. Those institutions or programs that support or augment needs of military occupational specialties are also important. In addition, DANTES will consider courses or programs that provide opportunities in disciplines that provide personal growth or self-improvement. DANTES requires participating institutions to support the Military Student Bill of Rights. These “Rights” focus directly on fair and honest recruiting, marketing, and student services practices. http://www.soc.aascu.org/socconsortium/BillOfRights.html
Licensing. The institution must be legally authorized and licensed by the states in which it does business. It must conform to all applicable state laws.
EEO practices. Institutions will not have any policy that discriminates against students based on race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, veteran status, or political beliefs. Institutions will not require students to sign a statement attesting to belief in or adherence to a religious doctrine.
