Course Description: This course focuses on the context of forensic evidence techniques and how they relate to the law. Modern techniques as well as techniques that have been used in the past will be examined. The crime scene will be looked at, the steps involved in recreating the crime scene, and collecting and testing evidence will be explored. We will also analyze the most recent court decisions that examine the use of forensic science during the investigation and at the trial of criminal cases. Each of the topics will have cases which have set precedence for future court cases.

Course Description: This course is designed to present the fundamentals of modern criminal investigation, commencing with crime scene investigations and concluding with interview/ interrogation techniques. The student will study the principles of criminal investigation conducted within the framework of the U. S. Constitution. The student will learn how these principles are generally applied to the investigation of various major felonies.

Course Description: This course examines procedural requirements for judicial processing of criminal offenders. The course provides students with a thorough understanding of the US justice system from the time of prearrest investigation through the sentencing phase. Students gain an understanding of different types of evidence, including hearsay, opinion, and circumstantial. Students will study concepts such as due process, the exclusionary rule, search and seizure, confession and admissions, discovery, and civil liability. Course Description: Introduction to a selected major topic or issue of importance for students in law enforcement course or corrections. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) explores initial investigation of a crime scene, including the first response of officers, protecting the crime scene, search patterns, collecting and packaging evidence, chain of evidence and rule that must be followed to ensure evidence is acceptable to the course, identifying various forms of evidence ranging from trace to biological weapons and documentation of a crime scene through sketching and photography.
