Program Overview

New Mexico State University technology-based degree completion programs are delivered using WebCT, Centra, ITV (Interactive Television), and other learning technologies. Some programs require face-to-face sessions on an NMSU campus, but exceptions or alternatives can be arranged.

Information Technology Coordinator Endorsement classes are offered via WebCT. Students can receive an endorsement for their teaching credential through a 24 credit Information Technology Coordinator Endorsement, which is usually completed as part of an MA in Education with an emphasis in Learning Technologies. There are occasional face-to-face meetings throughout the year.

Online Teaching and Learning Graduate Certificate (OTLGC) The Online Teaching and Learning Graduate Certificate (OTLGC) Courses are offered via WebCT with several synchronous online sessions. http://extended.nmsu.edu/academics/otl/tech.html The OTLGC is a one-year program consisting of five 3-credit courses and culminating in an online teaching practicum. Throughout the program, students design and develop an online course in the subject area of their choice. Students have the opportunity to learn general and subject-specific online teaching and learning principles and strategies. If you are a higher education or K12 educator, a corporate or military trainer, an education and training consultant, or a professional development service provider interested in developing formal online teaching environments, this program is for you. There are occasional (optional) face-to-face meetings throughout the year.

School Counseling Licensure course of study is for persons who hold at least a baccalaureate degree, but have not completed a traditional preparation program. In order to qualify for the School Counseling Licensure Course of Study at NMSU, a candidate must have a contract with a district as a school counselor. Delivery method: WebCT: 83% and Face to Face in Main Campus: 17% Requirements: 36 Graduate credit hours. Prerequisites: Bachelor's degree in an education related area, interest in a course of study related to School Counseling or current employment as a School Counselor with a waiver license, Admission to NMSU Graduate School, and Admission to the Counseling & Educational Psychology Department. Information about specific state requirements for Licensure as a School Counselor can be obtained via the New Mexico Public Education Department. To apply: Submit an Application for Admission, Admission Fee and Original Transcripts to the NMSU Graduate School.

Special Education Alternative Licensure course content is delivered via WebCT. Persons with a bachelor's degree or persons who are already teaching on an Internship license (waiver) are likely candidates for this program. Through extensive field experiences, technology, and multicultural education included in the coursework, the students gain skills and abilities to teach special learners with quality. With an additional 15 graduate hours through online and a minimal amount of face-to-face instruction (e.g., three face-to-face sessions throughout the semester for SPED 513 Research in Special Education) a Master's with an emphasis in Special Education is available.
